Community Leadership

Dysart Middle School (DMS) is a community leadership school where all students are empowered to find their leadership role in order to identify and solve community wide concerns. We are in the business of creating leaders and do so by unlocking the unique potential of each student so that they can discover what they are a leader in- empowering students with the leadership and life skills they need to thrive in the 21st century. We are lucky enough to be located in a strong, connected, and dedicated community. As a part of that community, we are working to ensure that we are growing students who can compete in a global society by ensuring that they are able to speak publicly, glean real-life skills, hold articulate conversations, and create the change of tomorrow. This is all made possible through high academic expectations and opportunities in both the arts and athletic arenas. Strong connections between school, students, families, and community members is what DMS thrives on!

Community Leadership Description

  • As each child discovers and develops his/her unique gifts and talents, they are given opportunities to lead. As leaders, they become active, engaged partners in their own education and their self-confidence, responsibility and initiative grows.
  • The students quickly understand the benefits of the different gifts and talents; they learn to listen to new ideas, work together to achieve results, and motivate one another to be the best.
  • Students have multiple opportunities to work independently and collaboratively to solve problems.
  • Students are empowered to personalize and self-direct their leadership experience.

Connection to the 3As

Academics

Leadership is our priority at DMS. We help students learn how to become self-sufficient,  take initiative, plan ahead, set and monitor goals, find their voice, do their homework, manage their emotions, be considerate of others, express their viewpoint professionally and persuasively, face and resolve conflicts, find creative solutions, value differences, and live a balanced life.

Arts

As leaders, students are empowered to find their passion. The arts is an area in which many students shine and are able to find and live their leadership role. In addition to the leadership skills students are taught daily, participation in the arts helps students develop resilience, master their craft, and succeed in life and in high school. On our campus, students are able to pick the arts they would like to participate in. These options are aligned to the high school courses, so students leave us ready to master their craft in high school.

Athletics

Attending DMS means that students are empowered to find their passions and talents. Through PE electives, sport teams, and sport clubs, students are able to become athletic leaders and learn the necessary foundational skills in order to compete at the next level, and be prepared to join a high school athletic program after attending our community leadership school.
