OVERVIEW

Marley Park Elementary School is proud to offer Art Special Area and Elective Classes for all Kindergarten - 8th grade students. Students in Kindergarten - 4th Grade, attend Art class with their homeroom classes throughout the year. All 5th - 8th Grade have the opportunity to select Art elective classes, specializing in a variety of mediums. During the 2022-2023 school year, the following electives will be offered, Drawing, Cartooning, Painting, 3D Multimedia, Ceramics, Fiber Arts and 2D Multimedia. Marley Park is committed to expanding our Art Program to include Art opportunities outside of school.

PROGRAMS OFFERED

Painting

This course is a survey of various painted media on the traditional surfaces of canvas and paper. The class will offer an overview of the fundamental traditional painting methods. Students will be challenged to create paintings that demonstrate their understanding of the elements of art and principles of design.

2D art

2D Multimedia

Students will create multi-media compositions with a variety of materials, paint, images, found objects, and ink painting. Techniques will include collage, monotype printing, drawing, painting, mixing, assemblage, cutting, and pasting, etc. Students will be challenged to create products that demonstrate their understanding of the elements of art and principles of design.

3D art

3D Multimedia

This art course deals with art in its 3-dimensional form. A variety of mediums will be explored, which may include textiles, ceramics, paper mache, wire sculpture…and more! Students will participate in a wide range of experiences using additive or subtractive sculptural techniques designed to build artistic and creative confidence. An appreciation for art from various cultures will be developed. Projects are designed to teach thinking skills and to include useful Art experiences such as color theory so that no matter what vocation students pursue, the knowledge gained in this class will be of value to them.

Ceramics

Students will gain knowledge and understanding of different media, tools, and processes for ceramic making. They will sketch, design, and practice a variety of skills needed to create a ceramic project. ( textures, shapes, attaching, coiling, rolling, smudging) They will learn the techniques of clay molding, firing, and painting the ceramic project.

yarn

Fiber Arts

This class will focus on sewing, weaving, and braiding projects. We will work with yarn, cotton, fabric, burlap, and other fibrous materials.
