Schools recognized for food drive efforts

Dysart Unified School District held a district-wide food drive in collaboration with Valley View Community Food Bank (VVCFB) where nearly 10,300 pounds of food were collected to support local families.

Two schools were exceptionally successful in their efforts.  Freedom Traditional Academy collected 1,341 pounds and Valley Vista High School collected 2,124 pounds, winning them the VVCFB 2024 Fighting Hunger Award in the elementary and high school categories, respectively.

Both Valley Vista High School and Freedom Traditional Academy held on-campus celebrations which included student leadership and a special visit from Amy Tekulve from VVCFB who presented plaques to the schools and thanked the students for their extraordinary achievements.

“On behalf of Valley View Community Food Bank, I want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Dysart Unified School District for organizing a district-wide food drive in support of our mission to combat hunger,” Tekulve said.  “The collective effort of your schools has been truly inspiring and the contributions made by students, staff, and families will make a significant impact in our community.”
