Dysart Launches Cell Phone Committee, Seeks Interested Applicants
DYSART SCHOOLS - The Dysart Unified School District is seeking parents, students, staff, and community members who are interested in serving on a cell phone committee for the purpose of evaluating the district’s current policy and usage. The committee is being established at the request of the Governing Board. It is important to note that the committee is not specifically studying a cell phone ban, rather, it will be gathering information and feedback from stakeholders to share with district leadership.
Interested individuals should complete the interest form at www.dysart.org/CellPhoneCommittee by Thursday, September 19 to apply. Those selected will be notified by the end of day on Friday, September 20. Applicants should be prepared to attend meetings on the following dates from 4:00-5:00pm: September 25, October 23, November 20, and January 22.
Dysart is committed to ensuring that there is staff, parent and student representation from all areas of the district on the committee, including individuals with an affiliation to each school. The committee’s final recommendations are expected to be presented to the Governing Board during a public meeting at the conclusion of the meetings. The district’s current policy regarding cell phone use is covered in the student handbook under “electronic devices”. The handbook defines minimum and maximum consequences, and currently allows for teacher discretion for possible use in the classroom, as needed.
