Unified Sports Team takes home State Championship

The Valley Vista High School Unified Soccer Team won the 2025 state championship.

The Valley Vista Unified team has been working together since August and is coached by Rebecca Milobar and Chris York.  The soccer team ultimately went three for three in the state playoffs to clinch this year’s championship.  Milobar credits their success to hard work and the encouragement they give one another.

“Being an athlete or partner on our Unified Sports team is one of the most rewarding experiences you can have in high school,” Milobar said.  “No one really knows how hard these kids work.  They are practicing two sports a season. One day we could be practicing basketball and the next we are playing soccer.  It takes a special athlete and partner to make a successful team.  Valley Vista is very lucky to have such amazing students participating in this program.”

Valley Vista High School’s Unified Sports program now touts double-digit state championships, with this win bringing the Monsoon to 10.  The program also has four runner-up state championships.

Unified Sports is a program that joins people with and without intellectual disabilities on the same team.  There are approximately 20 unified teams in the greater Phoenix area.
