47 Dysart Students Earn Arts Seal
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE — 5/19/2020
The Dysart Unified School District proudly celebrates 47 students who have earned the Arizona State Seal of Arts Proficiency in its inaugural year. The arts seal is awarded to high school students who have demonstrated high levels of competency in media arts, visual arts, dance, theatre, or music.
The Arizona State Seal of Arts Proficiency was signed into law by Governor Doug Ducey last year for all students that meet rigorous standards and demonstrate artistic literacy. Requirements include achieving a minimum “B” average on all approved arts courses, completing a minimum of 4 credit hours of approved arts courses, completing 30 hours of arts-related extracurricular activities, and a senior capstone project.
“We are extremely proud of the hard work, dedication, and extraordinary amount of hours our students and teachers have dedicated to their craft. These 47 students persevered through the tremendous challenges we have faced in the past few months, and amid school closures. The arts teach self-expression, empathy and creativity, which is something that is very much needed right now. These students are fine examples of how art enriches our lives,” said Danae Marinelli, Director of Arts.
Dysart Unified School District was one of 19 school districts across Arizona that participated this year. A total of 58 Arizona schools participated, and 585 students earned the Arts Seal, 47 of those were from Dysart.
