Exploring Number Lines

Mrs. Kelly's second-grade students have embarked on an engaging new math unit focusing on the structure and features of number lines. This foundational skill is crucial for building a deeper understanding of numerical relationships. Through this lesson, students discovered how whole numbers are represented on number lines as equally spaced tick marks, starting from zero. They applied this concept by designing their own number lines, enhancing their skills in spacing, labeling, and numerical representation.   These hands-on, interactive approaches foster both individual accountability and teamwork, encouraging students to think critically and engage deeply with the material. By combining structured lessons with collaborative activities, we aim to create an enriching environment that supports all learners.
