Literacy Month at Asante
September is a month that we are focusing on literacy here at Asante. Did you know that children who read 20 minutes or more a day can learn up to two million words per year, while children who read for five minutes a day learn 282,000 words per year? Reading is so critical to brain development and growth! For this focus here is are some of the things we will be doing to help encourage reading:
- We are also holding one of our key events of the year on September 26th which is the Asante Literacy Night. We really hope you will be able to join us for this wonderful evening! The theme this year is "Super Hero Readers"! From this you can get activities you can take home to do with you kids and get your library cards!
- Our PTO also holds one major fundraiser a year every year. This year it is going to be a Read-A-Thon celebration. Information about this and the kickoff will be coming home soon as well as it will be running through the last two weeks of September. Part of this will have a focus on reading at least 10 minutes each day!
- Ranger Readers Program will continue on throughout this month and the year! We have so many students with awards already!
- We will be having a literacy week with trivia and contests the week of Literacy Night.
