Driver's Education
Dysart Unified School District's Community Education Department offers an Arizona Department of Transportation approved Drivers Education program for high school students including behind-the-wheel training for students that are at least 15 years, 6 months. Students must have their driving permit in order to receive the behind-the-wheel training. We do offer a separate Drivers Education Learners Permit Seminar. See below for more information. Students who successfully complete the program, which requires 100% attendance, will receive an official Driver Education Certificate which fulfills the state requirement for the Graduated License. The cost for the class is $600 and includes behind-the-wheel training. We do offer a 20% discount for Dysart Employees only. Send us an email, via your Dysart email to driversed@dysart.org to receive the discount code.
Each session is 10 weeks long; 5 weeks of lecture followed by 5 weeks of behind-the-wheel*. Summer Sessions are condensed. We have expanded and offer two different lecture options. The traditional Saturdays and now a Tuesday/Thursday option in the afternoons after school. Registration limit for each of the Sessions is 28 Students.
Behind the wheel time is scheduled throughout the week and on weekends. You will have the option to choose the time that works best for you during the lecture portion of the class.

Driver's Education Learners Permit Seminar
Dysart Unified School District's Community Education Department offers a Learners Permit Course. This 2 Hour Instructional Course helps to prepare students for their Permit Exam. Students who successfully complete the program and pass the online test will receive an email with instructions to go to MVD with the required documents to pick up their Learners Permit. Prior to class, an account must be created with MVD and the $7.00 MVD Learners Permit Test paid for. Upon arrival to class, the student will need to know their login and password to the MVD account created. All classes are held from 3:30 to 5:30 pm.

FAQ's
Does my student still need to take the road test at MVD once they complete the course?
No, they will not need to take the road test at MVD. Once they successfully complete the program, they will receive an official Driver Education Certificate which fulfills the state requirement for the Graduated License.
Is the lecture portion required even though my student has their permit?
Yes, the lecture portion of the class is required in order to receive the certificate of completion.
How do we register for the class?
Registration is online; you can click the button above to register.
Is our car used or another car used for practice?
We provide a car for behind the wheel instruction, however, students should be practicing with their parents at home as well in their own car.
Are the driving lessons 1:1?
No, there are up to 3 students in the car for each session; they rotate and drive for a little over an hour each. When they are not driving, they are receiving indirect instruction, looking at road signs, etc.
How long is each driving session?
75 minutes per student. Sessions are typically 3 students.
Where do we take our student for the behind the wheel lessons?
The Saturday classes are held in the Media Center at Freedom Traditional Academy. 16066 North Parkview Pl, Surprise AZ 85374.
The weekday classes are held in the Media Center at Shadow Ridge High School. 10909 N Perryville Rd, Surprise AZ 85388.
Does my student need to attend a Dysart school to participate?
No, the class is open to all high school students in the community.
When do classes take place?
The lecture portion of the classes held on Saturdays will be from 8am-2pm and attendance is mandatory. The lecture portion for the classes held during the week will be from 3pm-6pm. Behind the wheel will take place on weekdays after school and on weekends; you choose the day that works best for your schedule. The summer schedule is condensed.
