AASA Testing Tips
Dear Families,
As we prepare for AASA, we want to partner with you to help your child feel confident, calm, and ready to show what they know. State assessments are an opportunity for students to demonstrate the growth they’ve made this year. With encouragement at home and support at school, our students can approach testing with a positive mindset.
Here are some simple and helpful ways you can support your child:
- Prioritize sleep. Aim for 8–10 hours of sleep each night, especially the week of testing. A well-rested brain performs better.
- Provide a healthy breakfast or eat in our Kingswood Cafeteria . Choose foods with protein and whole grains to help maintain energy and focus.
- Encourage a positive mindset. Remind your child that the test is simply a chance to show what they’ve learned. Effort matters more than perfection.
- Talk about strategies. Ask your child about test-taking strategies they’ve learned about at school. (reading carefully, eliminating wrong answers, checking work).
- Limit screen time the night before testing. Encourage relaxing activities like reading or quiet family time instead.
- Arrive on time. Being punctual helps your child begin the day feeling settled and prepared.
- Celebrate effort. Praise hard work and growth rather than focusing only on scores.
- Communicate with us. If your child is feeling anxious or has concerns, please let us know so we can support them.
Most importantly, remind your child that they are more than a test score. We are proud of their dedication, perseverance, and growth this year. Thank you for partnering with us to ensure every student feels supported and successful.
Together, we can help our students shine!
