School Leadership

Kara Sehr

Dear Luke Families,

It is my privilege to serve as your principal for the 2023-2024 school year, it is truly an honor.  Luke is an incredible school - we have the very best students, amazing families and our community is like none-other!  This past year, we worked hard to become ONE Team with ONE Mission and we did just that! This year will be my fifth year with the Dysart Unified School District.  I have been in school leadership for 13 years, serving as an Assistant Principal for 8 years and Director of STEM and Assessment for 3 years.  Prior to leadership, I taught Kindergarten and 7th Grade Math Teacher and was a Math Interventionist and Instructional Coach.  I am fortunate to be named as part of Luke’s talented team. I was born and raised in Michigan.  I attended Western Michigan University and moved to Arizona a week after I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education.  I obtained a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership and Principal Certificate from Northern Arizona University. My husband recently retired from the Air Force Reserves at Luke Air Force Base, after serving as a Firefighter for 23 years.  We live in Surprise with our daughter, son and three golden retrievers.  We enjoy the outdoors and spend our winters hiking the White Tank Mountains and playing at the parks and our summers swimming and playing family games.   The 2023-2024 school year will be the best!  I look forward to continuing to have high expectations for ALL and working together to help your child achieve their dreams!

Sincerely,

Kara Sehr, Principal

Dear Luke Jet Families,

I am excited to join the Luke Elementary community as your assistant principal for the 2024-2025 school year!   I am looking forward to working with and getting to know the students, families and staff at Luke Elementary. As the 2024-25 school year begins, one of the most important parts of being new to a school community is building trust and relationships.  I will strive to build that trust as I learn about and become a part of the Luke Family.  This will be my 25th year in Education.  I have served as a 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Social Studies teacher, Behavior Coach, Student Advisor, and an Assistant Principal.   It will be my fourth year in the Dysart Elementary School District.   I claim that I am originally from Illinois but prior to my 8th grade year, I moved a lot due to my father being in the Air Force.  I had amazing experiences growing up in a military family as I was able to see and live in great places.  After graduating from Greenville University in Greenville, Illinois, where I earned my Bachelor’s in Social Studies Education, I moved to Arizona to pursue job opportunities.  I then earned my Master’s in Education Administration and Supervision from the University of Phoenix.  In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my wife and two daughters.  Most weekends you can find me cheering on my daughters playing soccer or volleyball.  Watching my kids doing what they love fills me with joy.  When we are not on the field or the court, my family enjoys hiking and swimming.  Great things are already happening at Luke and I am excited that I now have the opportunity to be a part of this school community's growth and achievement.  I look forward to serving the Luke community, working together and always doing what is best for students.  Go JETS!

Sincerely,

Ian Casey, Assistant Principal
